Drinking Water Testing

drinking water testing
There are many reasons homeowners or organisations that will carry out drinking water testing. This may be on an adhoc or scheduled basis. Harmful bacteria, chemicals, organisms and other contaminants are often invisible to the naked eye. Although the water may look ‘normal’ it’s not necessarily safe for human consumption.

Test for Drinking Water

Drinking water testing is often considered for older buildings where lead pipes may have been used to connect the property to the mains network. Over time, lead can enter the water supply to the property. This could be a concern as exposure to significant quantities of lead can be detrimental to human health.

Potable Water Quality Parameters

Our basic drinking water testing suite includes a combination of microbiological and chemical parameters. This is to cover the most common issues with drinking water.

This test will confirm whether the water is likely to cause any significant danger to human health, and verifies that the most common contaminants are absent or within recommended limits.

Our basic drinking water testing includes:

  • pH level
  • Water hardness
  • Iron
  • Alkalinity
  • Conductivity
  • Coliforms
  • E coli
  • Nitrate
  • Nitrite
  • Hydrogen sulphide
  • Copper
  • Ammonia
  • Temperature

Alternatively, our advanced drinking water test suite is regulated to DWI (Drinking Water Inspectorate) standards. Samples are analysed at UKAS approved laboratories.

Neither suite includes all possible contaminants. Testing for all contaminants would be an expensive process.

If you have a particular issue or reason to suspect that a specific contaminant may be present, then you may wish to target a specific set of parameters in line with the issue you are experiencing. Contact an engineer and we can put together a bespoke testing suite to cater to your requirements.
